Frederik Meijer Gardens Wedding | The Yi Wedding Photos. There is something undeniably timeless about a wedding surrounded by flourishing gardens, elegant architecture, and the quiet beauty of nature. Katie and Hajoon’s wedding at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan, was a heartfelt celebration that beautifully reflected their journey together A journey built on friendship, patience, and love.

Surrounded by 137 of their closest family members and friends, they exchanged vows in one of West Michigan’s most iconic wedding venues before celebrating an unforgettable evening filled with joyful moments, meaningful traditions, and timeless elegance.

A Romantic Wedding at Frederik Meijer Gardens

Nestled in the heart of Grand Rapids, Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is one of Michigan’s most sought-after wedding venues for couples dreaming of a refined garden celebration. With breathtaking botanical gardens, world-renowned sculptures, and beautiful indoor event spaces, it offers countless opportunities for timeless wedding photography.

Katie and Hajoon embraced the venue’s natural beauty with an elegant color palette of powder blue, champagne, and crisp white, creating a celebration that felt classic, sophisticated, and effortlessly romantic.

From lush garden pathways to sunlit conservatory views, every corner of the venue provided an extraordinary backdrop for documenting the beginning of their marriage.

A Love Story Rooted in Friendship

Some of the strongest relationships begin with friendship.

Katie and Hajoon first met at a bar in 2017 when Hajoon introduced himself and struck up a conversation. What started as a friendship gradually grew into something much deeper over the following years.

In 2020, they officially began dating, building a relationship rooted in trust, laughter, and genuine companionship.

Five years later, during an anniversary trip to Pittsburgh, Hajoon surprised Katie with the proposal she had been dreaming about. Their engagement marked not only the beginning of wedding planning but also the continuation of a love story that had been quietly unfolding for years.

Their wedding day beautifully reflected that journey. Intentional, joyful, and centered around the people they love most.

Timeless Details Inspired by the Gardens

Every detail of Katie and Hajoon’s wedding complemented the elegance of Frederik Meijer Gardens.

Soft powder blue accents paired beautifully with champagne tones and fresh white florals designed by Love Knots Floral, creating a timeless aesthetic that felt perfectly at home among the surrounding gardens.

Katie looked radiant in her gown from True Society Grand Rapids, while her bridesmaids wore elegant dresses from Bridal Elegance Grand Rapids. Hajoon and his groomsmen wore classic tuxedos from Joseph A. Banks, creating a polished and sophisticated look that never goes out of style.

Thoughtfully selected linens from Special Occasions added another layer of refinement to the reception design.

Every detail worked together to create a celebration that felt cohesive, elegant, and deeply personal.

A Wedding Filled With Meaningful Moments

One of my favorite parts of photographing Katie and Hajoon’s wedding was witnessing the quiet moments tucked between the celebration.

The anticipation before the ceremony.

The smiles exchanged during portraits.

Parents watching with tears in their eyes.

Friends laughing together during the reception.

These fleeting interactions often become the memories couples treasure most.

As a Michigan fine art wedding photographer, I believe these unscripted moments deserve just as much attention as the carefully planned details. Throughout the day, I documented their celebration with a blend of documentary storytelling and editorial-inspired portraiture, creating photographs that feel authentic while remaining timeless.

The result is a gallery that preserves not only what their wedding looked like, but what it felt like to be there.

Celebrating With Family and Friends

With 137 guests gathered to celebrate, the reception was filled with warmth, heartfelt speeches, joyful dancing, and unforgettable memories.

For dessert, Katie and Hajoon chose sweet treats from Doughs Guy Bakery in Chicago, adding a personal touch to their celebration and giving guests another memorable detail to enjoy.

Every part of the evening reflected the couple’s greatest priority: creating an experience where family and friends could celebrate together in a meaningful way.
